Community Experience Active
The Community Experience Active Program is a full service program that offers opportunities for individuals with multiple disabilities to participate in personal choices within their environment and in their local community.
The location of CEA is on scenic Silver Lake in Meriden. The individuals can enjoy the local wildlife of geese, tortoise and a variety of birds along with listening to the trains go by while relaxing in a hammock or swing in the spacious outdoor setting.
At the site, individuals can choose to relax in our new sensory room with a fiber optic waterfall over a relaxing waterbed or interact with the bubble column causing color and motion changes. One may decide to wrap up in fiber optic lights or enjoy the scenic motion displays of undersea life around the waterbed. For those who love music or movies in the main area they may enjoy a large screen TV/DVD/CD with surround sound or lay on the large human drum and create music as the vibrations float through their body.
Activities in the area are based on personal choice and individuals can be seen participating in arts & crafts, games, sing-a-longs, music therapy, movies, exercise, sensory stimulation or other events of their choice. You may see some individuals enjoying the scenery as they drive through the area on a golf cart, this being a personal request of one of the individuals. The individuals also enjoy planting flowers each year around the outside area. Soon we hope many individuals will be able to enjoy a water interaction area. Next year’s addition may include a spacious sunroom.
During the day, individuals choose to participate in community activities that have included visits to the parks, planetarium, bowling, miniature golf, fishing, shopping, local restaurants and coffee shops.
Highly trained staff provide assistance with personal needs, adult daily living
skills, medical needs including medication administration, volunteer opportunities, future dream building, and person centered planning, personal relationship building, self-advocacy, advocacy and behavioral management. There are 7 staff for 22 individuals.
